Fun Fundraising Night for "our Mick"

A spectacular evening was held at Le Café Royale, Boyz Town, on Saturday July 25, 2009 to raise funds to assist our dear friend Mick, Night Manager of The Piano Bar who for the past seven weeks has been critically ill in a Bangkok Hospital and may soon require medical repatriation back to the UK, in itself a very expensive procedure.

Guests were welcomed to a full house with a delicious and well presented free 'Chef’s Carved Buffet’ with all the trimmings courtesy of Craig, owner of The Piano Bar and Le Café Royale, who also generously donated 20% of the gross takings, not only for the evening but also for a period of 24 hours. A fine gesture indeed.

Four sections of fast moving shows were then presented and the artistes appearing were Le Café Royale’s ‘El Duo’ and Toi, the outrageous Dolly John, the inimitable Lucy Lastik, and fine vocalist Johnny Parish (bearing a remarkable resemblance to Peter co-owner of Oscars) together with splendid and well costumed numbers from The Divas and Dudes of Boyz Boyz Boyz and the ‘Show Boys’ of Copa Showbar.

Between sections of the shows charity auctions were held and the most notable items to be sold were:
• a two-day break with Champagne Dinner at Dennis Dewsnap’s Churchill Hotel in York who also generously donated a large sum of money
• a tigers tooth set in 18 carat gold and donated by John from Hawaii sold for a staggering 35,000 baht and a Buddha Statue also donated by John raised 25,000 baht.

Friends from Hong Kong’ donated 69,000 baht. Madame Jim spent 10,000 baht buying back the gown she had donated, then re-donated it to be purchased by Colin and Malcolm of Ozz Bar and the new Bondi Beach Bar who once again paid 10,000 baht for it.

With rumours abounding that Colin and Malcolm were buying it to get a sample of DNA to create their very own little Madame Jim Colin modeled the gown much to the delight of everyone.

Even Dolly John’s ‘German Fraulein’ costume was bought‘ off his back’ for 5,000 baht by Steve of ‘Ganymede Bar' Jomtien Complex leaving John to go home on the bus in men’s clothing for a change. Donation envelopes were available to all and thank you for the fine donations.

‘Late in the evening the draw was held for the winner of the 2-Baht Gold Chain kindly donated by Laszlo and James and the winner was Jamie Moran with ticket number 97, who was not present on the evening having already returned to the UK but his friend is transporting it to him.

Special thanks must go to Craig the owner of The Piano Bar & Café Royale, and Tom the General Manager and all his staff. To Lucas and Marcus of The Tarntawan Hotel Bangkok. To all the artistes who appeared, to James and Laszlo, Hawaii John, Dennis Dewsnap, 'Friends from Hong Kong', David and Peter from Oscars, Tim and Lud from Panorama & Funny boys, Peter and Glenn of Café Royale and Copa Showbar, Printer Graham of Café Royale & Copa Showbar, Madame Jim of The Ambiance Group and Boyz Boyz Boyz, Ken from Belfast, Balcony Pub Bangkok, Steve & Chris from Liberty Computers, Richard from Amor Restaurant, John Coughtrie, Terry and all anonymous contributors. If we have missed anyone, our apologies, you know who you are and thank you.

It was a sad occasion which generated this evening, but not a sad evening, indeed an evening of great fun and laughter enjoyed by all and a great compliment to our dear friend Mick who is in our heart’s now and always.

THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH
